Alt Text Automate is a Shopify app that scans a store's product catalog and Content > Files uploads for images missing alt text and uses AI to suggest descriptive alt text for each image. By default, a suggestion is only written back to Shopify after the merchant reviews and approves it. On paid plans, a merchant may opt in to nightly automation, where suggestions are generated and written back automatically, without manual review — this is off by default and must be explicitly enabled by the merchant.
read_products, write_products, read_files, write_files).We do not collect customer data. This app never requests order or customer scopes, and never accesses a merchant's customers or their personal information.
To generate alt text suggestions, image URLs and minimal product context (title, product type) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API. No customer data is ever included in these requests. See Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle data sent to their API.
Review queue data is retained for as long as the app is installed. When a merchant uninstalls the app, all stored data for that store is permanently deleted within 48 hours, via Shopify's mandatory shop/redact webhook.
Since this app holds no customer personal data, there is nothing to request or redact under GDPR/CCPA on behalf of a merchant's customers. A merchant may request deletion of their own store's review-queue data at any time by uninstalling the app, or by contacting us directly.
